How to Play Mystery Darts

What Is Mystery Darts?

Mystery Darts is a daily deduction game built on Football Darts. In Football Darts you are told the category, such as "Premier League Appearances for Arsenal", and you name players to score points. Mystery Darts turns that around: the category is hidden, and every player you name shows you their darts score for it. Your job is to read those scores and work out exactly what the category is.

The Three Parts of a Category

Every Mystery Darts category is made of three parts, always counted across every season since 1992/93. Getting all three right solves the puzzle.

  • Competition: the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, or all of the Top 5 leagues together.
  • Stat: Appearances, Goals, Goals + Appearances, Goal Contributions (goals plus assists), Appearances minus Goals, or Appearances minus Assists.
  • Club or Nation: the club the player played for, or the country they represent.

Reading the Scores

Name any footballer from the top five European leagues since 1992. Their score is the stat for the hidden category, added up over every season that fits. A player who does not fit at all scores 0, and that is a clue too.

A big number points you towards a long-serving player; a score that is suspiciously close to a player's goal tally might mean the stat involves goals. Stuck? Watch a short ad for a clue: a player who fits the category with a score under 50.

Guessing the Category

When you think you know the answer, tap each of the three boxes — Competition, Stat and Club / Nation — to pick an option, then hit Guess. Every box gets a green tick or a red cross. Ticked boxes are locked in for your next guess, and the options you got wrong are crossed out, so every guess narrows things down. With a club, the competition is either that club's league or the Top 5 Leagues.

Scoring

Like every game in the Daily Challenge, lower is better.

Solve it within ten players on your first guess for a perfect score of 0.

Tips

A few ways to crack the category faster:

  • Start with a famous, long-serving player. A big score tells you a lot about the competition and club at once.
  • Name a player from a different league to test the competition. A 0 for a La Liga legend rules a lot out.
  • Compare two players from the same club, or the same country, to tell a club category from a nation one.
  • Check the stat by naming a goalkeeper: goals barely move their score, appearances do.
